  3. In a double-strength upgrade of its Macintosh programming tools line, Symantec recently announced THINK C Version 5.0 and THINK Pascal Version 4.0, enhanced versions of its popular development environments.  Both products now let programmers take full advantage of System 7.0 capabilities.

THINK C Version 5.0 provides outstanding code generation without sacrificing speed.  The multi-pass, optimizing compiler and code generator have been completely rewritten to produce the most compact, efficient C code on the Macintosh.  With the optional global optimizer, a new tool, users can further reduce code size and execution time.  THINK C is now 100 percent ANSI conformant, which means that applications written in THINK C are more easily portable to other platforms.

  12. Macintosh programmers can use THINK C to write programs that use the
  13. latest System 7.0 technologies.  THINK C runs under System 7.0 in both 24- and 32-bit modes, with or without virtual memory, and supports the required set of Apple events. New object-oriented programming (OOP) tools include a class browser that provides a graphical view of a program s class and makes navigating and editing

OOP code easier.  The THINK Class Library (TCL) has been extended as well.  The TCL provides the building blocks for a standard Macintosh user interface, such as windows, menus and controls.  THINK Class Library enhancements include newclasses for dialogs, multi-window documents, and System 7.0 support.

The THINK C editor now has markers for moving more easily through large source files, as well as additional search capabilities.  The integrated source-level debugger now remembers breakpoints and data displays between sessions, which allows programmers to keep their place in the program. Other new features include Disassemble and Preprocess commands that allow programmers to view their code in different forms.  The new features also provide the ability

  21. Like Version 5.0 of THINK C, THINK Pascal Version 4.0  also provides outstanding code generation.  The THINK Pascal compiler generates
  22. the smallest and fastest Pascal code on the Macintosh.  Like THINK C, all of the tools in the THINK Pascal environment editor, compiler, linker, debugger, browser are completely integrated for fast turnaround.

  24. THINK Pascal supports System 7.0, allowing developers to write programs that use System 7.0 technologies.  THINK Pascal runs under System 7.0 in both 24- and 32-bit modes, with or without virtual memory and supports the required set of Apple events.

The new Instant Project feature lets programmers create a project with a single command, automatically opening the project document, loading the libraries and opening a source file in the editor.  This feature is especially helpful for novices and those just starting to work with THINK Pascal.  There is also support for larger projects, including Far Code and multiple segments in any project type, allowing programmers to develop very large applications more quickly.

THINK C Version 5.0 requires a Macintosh Plus or higher with a minimum of 1 Mb of RAM (though Symantec recommends 2Mb).  The debugger requires 2 Mb of RAM, MultiFinder, and System software Version 6.0 or higher.  A hard disk is recommended, and is required for taking advantage of the THINK Class Library.  The suggested retail price of THINK C Version 5.0 is $299.00.  Registered owners of earlier versions can upgrade for $89.00.

  38. THINK Pascal Version 4.0 requires a Macintosh Plus or higher with a
  39. minimum of 1 Mb of RAM (though Symantec recommends 2Mb).  4 Mb of RAM are recommended for use with the THINK Class Library or Apple's MacApp.  System software Version 6.0 or later is also required.  A hard disk is recommended, and required for the THINK Class Library or MacApp.  The suggested retail price of THINK Pascal Version 4.0 is $249.00  Registered users can upgrade for $69.00
